    Background

Dr Russell Young first became interested in Radiology whilst observing CT scanning on a surgical elective in Canada.  He worked as a clinician in Scotland and Australia, returning to the UK to start training in Radiology.  He developed an interest in musculoskeletal radiology early on, which complemented his sporting interests.  After completing a specialist musculoskeletal radiology fellowship at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford he worked as a consultant radiologist at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, which has excellent orthopaedic and radiology departments.

More recently he has been working in Cirencester and for GP Care throughout Gloucestershire.  Whilst working for GP Care, many patients commented that they liked having ultrasound scans more locally.  This gave him the idea of trying to provide a more local and personal ultrasound scan service.  He also reports MRI and CT scans, which can be arranged via Cobalt Health in Cheltenham on request from your health professional.

Advanced practitioner and consultant practitioner radiographers increase responsibility in their job roles, respectively, to a point where the four core domains of consultant work are pivotal to their roles: 1) expert clinical practice; 2) professional leadership and consultancy; 3) education, training & development, practice & service development; 4) research & evaluation. It is the aspiration of The Society and College of Radiographers that radiographers undertaking advanced practice are educated to full Masters level and consultant practitioners to Professional Doctorate / PhD level.
